how to preserve your hair color at home
From a single process color to a balayage keeping it presentable is a commitment. With so many salons closed to fight the spread of coronavirus its a new world to navigate.
One of the reasons hair looks its most pristine when you leave the salon is because colorists pull out all the stops. We know how to nail down the tone perfectly and seal the cuticle to add shine and vibrancy. Then after 4 weeks your roots may show or 8 week a tinge of brass is back. Keep this in mind as you switch up your in-home routines.
steer clear of detoxing or clarifying shampoos to preserve what your colorist has done
don’t over wash, stick to one x or two x’s a week. this may even be the time to experiment with longer stretches
deep condition and use coconut oil as overnight mask or layer in slowly
air dry and experiment with styling products for no heat styling
experiment with color correcting conditioners, use light purple to tone out brassy yellow highlights and a blue to tone out orange in brunettes
try new root cover-ups (oribe airbrush touch-up or wow root cover up) some dry shampoos have color added (bb hair powder)
If that box color is still calling your name, contact your colorist. They will understand and can guide you to the right products. My advice would be only color your new-growth and the new-growth that people can see. Only attempt if you are going darker or covering grays. Don’t try to do every inch of your hair, you will likely overlap some of your previously colored hair because you cant see very well. Use a semi-permanent color line a salon would use (redkin shades eq) and use a level lighter then you think you need.
